Summer’s in the frame at Whyte’s ……………
Whyte’s last auction of the 2020/2021 season heralds the summer with an opening range of sunny paintings of the Wild Atlantic Way by John Francis Skelton (lots 1-5, €400-€800 each, Lot 2 illustrated above), Des Carrick (18, €600-€800), Kathleen Mackie (lots 171-181, €300-€500 each) and Ivan Sutton (15, €1,500-€2,000). Norman Teeling remembers “Summer in Dublin” (lots 10-12) and Peter Collis depicts the seaside suburbs of Killiney and Monkstown (26 and 27, €150-200 for a print and €1,000-€1,500 for an oil), with Stephen Cullen contributing a sunny view of Coliemore Harbour, Dalkey. Tom Roche, Norman McCaig, Pádraig Lynch and John Morris are also represented with sunny views of Dublin, Meath and Cavan.
“Ireland’s Lowry”, the ever-popular Markey Robinson is represented by 12 works (35-46, from, €300 to €1,000 each, Lot 43 illustrated above), while the equally popular Graham Knuttel features in five lots (47-55, €200 to €1,000 each). There are six handcoloured prints by Jack Yeats, our greatest visual artist, ranging in estimates from €200 to €400 each.
Other notables with works in this attractively pitched sale are Paul Henry, Letitia Hamilton (Lot 155 illustrated above), Gerard Dillon, Louis le Brocquy, Mick O’Dea, Robert Ballagh, Guggi and John Kingerlee to mention only a few.
