Vincent: Questioning the Method
'Vincent: Questioning the Method' is a character study of Vincent van Gogh by actor and artist Stuart Dunne. For this project, currently in production, Dunne is attempting to represent the last 70 days of van Gogh's life using an intensive style of method acting. The study is being filmed in the town of Portlaoise, Ireland, and it will provide material for: a feature-length dramatic film; a documentary about the process of artistic creation; an exhibition of painting and sculpture; and notes for a future program of study in the visual arts. The project will begin on 20th May, 2009 in and around the town of Portlaoise. The study will be documented by a film crew 24/7 for the duration, and will yield both web content and eventually a documentary feature.
Vincent van Gogh arrived in Auvers-Sur-Oise on May 20th, 1890. Within 70 days, he was dead. During these last weeks, van Gogh created 89 paintings. Stuart Dunne aims to match this frenzied pace, creating at least one painting a day over the course of his 70-day immersion in character. |
